History

wswfit.com.pl was established in April 2001 as a result of transformation of the existing Teachers College of Physical Education named after Zygmunt Szelest to an autonomous university.

We rely on the experience gained during several years of activity of the Teachers College of Physical Education and many years of our own history. Our University cooperates closely with the Józef Piłsudski Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. We are one of the most dynamically developing institutions of higher education in the region.

In 2005, our University obtained  the Minister’s of National Education accreditation for conducting second-cycle studies in the field of Physical Education, which made us the only university in the north-eastern part of Poland authorized to award the master’s degree.

In 2008, the wswfit.com.pl moved. The presence of WSWFiT in the largest academic center in the region, which is Białystok, supplemented the offer of academic education in the city and provided our university with an opportunity for even more dynamic development.

A modern didactic building, was partially co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Integrated Regional Development Operational Program. Therefore, the University has a gym, didactic games classroom, music and movement training classroom,  physiology, biomechanics and computer classrooms. WSWFiT also has a modern library with over 9800 volumes.

wswfit.com.pl is mainly sport oriented. AZS University Club representations successfully participate in the Podlasie Academic League and the Polish Championship of Universities. Our students win medals not only in academic events at the regional and national level, but also in sports events of the highest rank, such as the European or world championships. As the only university in the region, we participated in one of the largest academic sports events, which are undoubtedly the European Academic Championships. WSWFiT students have participated in the Old Continent Championship five times, competing in football, basketball, volleyball and badminton.

The greatest success of our university's athletes was the 6th place in the European Academic Championships in women's basketball and football in 2005 and winning the 22nd and 23rd edition of the Polish Higher Education Championships of private universities (42 sport disciplines) in 2002-2006.
